A senior doctor was among 12 people who died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours in Kashmir valley, taking the death toll due to the infection to 472 in the Union Territory of J&K, where 507 new positive cases were detected on Sunday.
With these deaths, 436 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in 66 days, and 456 people in 80 day in J&K, where the total number of infected persons has risen to 24,897. “Srinagar continued to remain at the top in terms of new cases with 155 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday followed by Bandipora with 50 new cases,” an official said, adding 336 positive patients have recovered today.
Official sources said that three persons each from Baramulla and Srinagar died due to COVID-19 during the last 24 hours in different hospitals. “All the patients were suffering from respiratory problems,” they said.
They said Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag in south, Kupwara, Bandipora in north and Budgam in central Kashmir lost one life each due to the infection.
With these fatalities, the death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 152 in Srinagar which is the worst affected district in J&K in terms of causalities, followed by Baramulla with 82 deaths. The number has swelled to 33 in Anantnag and 35 in Budgam. As many as 24 people have lost their lives to the disease in Shopian and 26 in Kupwara.
The number of deaths stands at 30 each in Kulgam and Pulwama. Seventeen people have lost their lives in Bandipora while Ganderbal district recorded seventh death due to COVID-19 on August 7. The number has swelled to 23 in Jammu while Ramban reported its first COVID-19 related death on July 28.
Ten districts of Jammu have reported 34 fatalities while 437 people have lost their lived due to COVID-19 in ten districts of Kashmir.
J&K recorded the highest number of death in a week due to COVID-19 last week with 84 people, mostly from Kashmir, losing the battle against the disease. Sixty one people, including 57 from Kashmir and four from Jammu, lost their lives due to COVID-19 between July 20 and July 26.
Sixty five people lost their lives between July 13 and July 19 due to COVID-19 in J&K. As many as 48 patients -- including 10 persons from Baramulla, 12 from Srinagar, six from Kulgam, three from Anantnag, Kupwara and Budgam, Jammu region, two each from Shopian and Ganderbal, one patient each from Pulwama, Bandipora and a BSF jawan -- died due to COVID-19 between July 6 and July 12.
As many as 41 people -- including nine from Srinagar, 10 from Baramulla, five each from Anantnag, three from Kulgam, Budgam and Shopian, two each from Kupwara and Bandipora, one each from Jammu and Ganderbal -- died due to COVID-19 between June 29 and July 5.
